Remember Mystery? It was definitely a surreal experience going to a photoshoot with that guy and telling him where to put himself.
After skimming the book (I couldn't totally get through it) I came up with a few pitches to bring to life the story of this guy sheparding his sheep through the wilderness of women with his faithful wingmen. Chosen idea was based on black velvet paintings meet the 90's music video that had a huge Pamela Anderson with a band singing on her body. This being Mystery, however, I chose to make her a Real Doll style woman rather than an actual lady. Although given the low budget, cost probably also played into it as much as my feminist critique. I used Poser 3D software to create the woman, we shot mystery with his arm posed, and filmed all the guys in our office walking around to be filler for the scenes. I made many versions of the logo before we landed on this, and did the first pass at the animation, but after I left for another booking, another animator speeded it up and added some flourishes. Shown here is my version, not the final version.
Huge thanks to my wonderful Creative Director John Priday who let me take this whole pitch so I was sure to get one of my ideas sold. As kind as he is talented, that guy.
